Glossy blown glass
Popular "rainbow color" series

"Hizen Bidoro", which is designated as an important intangible cultural property of Saga Prefecture, began to be made around the end of the Edo period.
The air-blown glass, which is made by breathing in human breath without using a mold, is characterized by its smooth luster and soft curves.

"Rainbow color" is a popular series among Hizen Bidoro.
By arranging five colors of red, yellow, blue, purple, and light blue, a pale and fantastic rainbow color is expressed.
By finishing the surface with gentle unevenness, it complicates the reflection of light and increases the brilliance.
The bubbles in the bottom are also one of the cute points.

The smallest glass in the "Rainbow Color" series is the "Bite Beer" glass.
It was made for those who want to taste a little sake.
Because it is small, you can feel the vivid colors of the colored glass and enjoy the charm of the iridescent glass.
It is also recommended as a gift for anniversaries such as new home celebrations and wedding celebrations.

Communicating the advancedness of the Meiji era to the present
The only glass studio

The history of Hizen Bidoro begins with the refining method established by Nabeshima Naomasa, a teenager of the Saga Nabeshima Domain.
The refining method is what we now call RIKEN, where we were conducting research on Western science and technology such as cannon casting.
It is said that the craftsmen in the workshop, which were made to make glass products such as beakers and flasks, started making glass for lamps in the castle after the refining method was exhausted.

One such workshop is Soejima Glass.
While other glass studios are out of business, we have continued to make glass products that meet the needs of the times by hand by craftsmen by coloring transparent glass and adding patterns that utilize our own technology.

President Soejima Glass says that "preserving and strengthening tradition" is to incorporate modern sensibilities and new techniques while inheriting traditional techniques.
That thought will bring to us the gem of Hizen Bidoro, which continues to change vividly.
